Maisie first encountered Fore-Edge painting while studying manuscript illumination during her degree in Art History at the University of Bristol. Fore-edge painting is an old art form where detailed watercolor scenes are painted directly onto the edges of a book’s pages

2020年から2021年にかけての新型コロナウイルスによるロックダウン中、メイジーは初めてこの工芸に挑戦しました。その試みがきっかけとなり、彼女はこの工芸そのものへの情熱を深めるとともに、新たな観客層にもこの工芸を身近に感じてもらおうという決意を固めました。

「フォアエッジ・ペインティング」は現在、英国伝統工芸協会（Heritage Crafts Association UK）が管理する「絶滅の危機に瀕している工芸のレッドリスト」に掲載されていますが、彼女は新たな観客にこの工芸を紹介することで、その状況に歯止めをかけようと取り組んでいます。

I do love giving new life into old books. Not only is it a sustainable art form, but they often come with their own pieces of history: inscriptions with names, dates, and little messages if they were gifts.

彼女は、芸術的な才能の有無にかかわらず、他の人々が自ら「フォアエッジ・ペインティング」に挑戦し、お気に入りの本を芸術作品へと変える楽しさを発見できるよう、そのきっかけとなるよう努めています。
