I’m actually a big fan of Mr. Bishop’s work. I own a couple copies. Overall it was very informative. If I have a critique it would be that the video itself seems low in quality. The background gave a good homely and friendly touch, but perhaps it could have benefitted from more lighting. Can’t put my finger on it but let’s just say I’ve seen the competition and there’s a noticable difference. Still, for the price you can’t complain too much. I’ll definitely be back for more.

I really liked the speaker’s insight on the basics of character design. Coming from someone who has tried to teach themselves the fundamentals, it was nice to have it all spelled out so clearly and with examples. Getting to see the speaker’s process was also super helpful!

A very nice course about the fundamentals of character design, easy to understand, and with good examples. Also interesting for filmmakers, not just illustrators or animators. And a very charming tutor as well.

Despite Randy selling himself short in the intro, he was perfect as a teacher. The course is good for probably anyone, but most helpful for people who are going from just doing random characters to actually designing characters that can exist in a story. But it’s also perfect for advanced people who need to understand the concepts. It’s not at all about how to draw, but rather the ideas and concepts behind character design, and very good advice on the workflow and what’s important in design.

I recommend it for Intermediate.
